Andrew’s top priority is to return ethical practices rooted in equity and expertise to the office of assessor.

Ethical. Expert. Effective.

Our current assessor lacks experience. Our current assessor lacks initiative. Our current assessor lacks a conscience.

He undervalues commercial properties, has been inactive in the field throughout the pandemic, and consistently does not show up to defend the taxpayer’s position to the Board of Review, leading to inequitable treatment and higher taxes for residents.

With a background as a residential broker, he technically has the qualifications to be the assessor, but does not possess the skills required to accurately value the large office buildings and retail properties that make up a large portion of the tax base. As someone who has taken a back seat in the appeals process, he does not demonstrate the energy and dedication required to effectively protect our interests and our community.

Who do you trust to accurately value Walgreens’ headquarters, or Caterpillar’s, or the Hyatt hotel?

Not showing up for an appeal of one house might not matter, but what about when Walgreens or Caterpillar appeals their taxes, and there’s no one defending the community’s position? We all end up paying higher taxes, even if our  assessments go down.

I will fight for all residents of Deerfield to have equitable assessments, and I will fight back against the corporations and their attorneys who keep getting away with appeals because there’s no one to say no.

With a fresh perspective, deep expertise in accurate valuation and navigating the Board of Review appeals process, and an ironclad commitment to equity and serving our community with integrity, Andrew Richter is the voice of real change for the people of West Deerfield Township.
